Hawaii – A State of Being

“The universe gives a clear message at all times.
It merely requires the awakening of your awareness to what is happening around you.
Life is generous…
Blessing rain upon us—but we need to be aware to receive these blessings.”

 — Kahu Abraham Kawai’i

The magic of Hawaii is captured in Hawaii – A State of Being.

Sacred Bodywork is proud to present the magic of Hawaii captured in "Hawaii – A State of Being" book by Heather Titus and honors a great Kahuna ~ Kahu Abraham Kawai'i.

This collection of exquisite photography by Titus will take you on a visual journey with images ranging from pristine waterfalls to playful whales, from red-hot volcanoes to traditional hula dancers, from vibrant sunsets to surfers in mid-air.

Each stunning image is accompanied by insightful quotes from a collection of Kahuna principles by Kahu Abraham Kawai’i, written in conjunction with Ho’okahi Kawai’i, the wife and long time student of the Kahuna.

Kahunas fulfilled the role in Hawaii that belongs to shamans, priests, healers and oracles in other nature-oriented cultures. A native Hawaiian, Kahu Abraham Kawai’i taught the values of the Hawaiian way of life—the values reflected in the land itself—for more than four decades.

He believed that in a moment, one could experience quantum transformation.

Here are some of our most favorite quotes of Kahu Abraham Kawai'i:

“The fabric of life is arranged through the quality of our thoughts.”

"This work begins with the understanding of yourself: your range and patterns of movement, and how they contribute to your total understanding of Life. You are provided with a vehicle to expand, express and ultimately, free yourself."

"There is nothing you cannot change - you are a creator.
Awareness is the first step to understanding that every individual has the capability to promote better health by the way they think. Prayer is one such focused extension of though, and can create empowerment and changes"

"to remove what doesn't belong."

"The development of the self
comes before any other skill,
for the skill exists
in that 'silent magnitude'
within the core
of your performance
in any and all expressions."

"It is, when you are the speaker and the listener,
and that which is spoken, in one.....'
'It is, when you are the giver, the receiver,
and that which is given, in one.....' aua'ia, uliama"

"Think about it, and it will think about you.
Live it and it will live for you.
Apply it in any direction,
and it will apply itself in that direction for you.
Praise it and it will praise you.

There is nothing that it will not do for you, in as much as you would do for yourself."

"Always hold the greatest thoughts about anyone, anything or anyplace, especially towards yourself. For the natural rule is, if any, that YOU will always be the recipient."

"We must understand the beauty of our being, the empowered expression of that which we are, here and now. To be or not to be is not the question. What is has always been the answer." —

".....Finally, you understand yourself to be the walking, breathing Truth"

 Kahu Abraham Kawai'i, Kahuna

Theses verses of simple truth are magnified against the beauty of nature in Hawaii – A State of Being.

The poetic expression of Kahu Abraham Kawai’i, along with inspiring quotes of yogic origin, come together in this book to reflect core beliefs that sharpen our senses and lift our spirits to new and joyful perceptions of the world. In revealing the inner principles of harmonious being, Hawaii – A State of Being expresses the values of Hawaiian culture—whether ancient or contemporary—making them relevant to our modern lives.

As a student of Kahu Abraham Kawai’i, Heather Titus attended his workshops and learned that she could apply the principles of the Kahuna in her own life.

“Lean into that which you resist and the horizon of life will expand.”

“In reality should haves and could haves do not exist.”

Empowering concepts such as these inspired Titus to compile her book so that these words could be shared all over the world, leading her to become a best-selling author and photographer in Hawaii. “In creating Hawaii – A State of Being, there were many obstacles and detours,” Titus explained.

“I applied many of the principles contained in the book to see it through in a state of grace and ease. I knew nothing about self-publishing, though with a heart filled with commitment, I did it without a penny in my pocket.”

When the timeless virtues found in Hawaii – A State of Being are applied, they take you beyond concepts that can limit your possibilities. A life lived with the aid of these principles is a voyage guided by eternal truths. As we undertake this journey, our hearts open and dare to look further into the endless horizon.

Hawaii – A State of Being contains 256 pages with 136 full color photographs and is available in hard or soft cover. The book is available for $68 in hardcover or $45 soft cover at Native Books Hawaii, BookEnds in Kailua, Under A Hula Moon, So Kailua, Haiku Gallery at Windward Mall, all Borders locations and other gift shops throughout the state.

(Kahu) Abraham Kawai'i, Kahuna:

(Kahu) Abraham Kawai'i (        -2004), Keeper of the Maka'i'ole and Kapihe Kahuna Arts "Te Tia'i Nei'ou Tou Rua I Te Tama"

Abraham Kawai’i a Hawaiian native borne Hawaiian Kahuna of the Order of Olohe, an adept of innate perceptive ability.

He was the living Kahuna through whose line all Kahuna trainings in non-Hawaiian Society originate. Kahu Abraham Kawai'i founded Kahuna Bodywork, known for long, flowing strokes and fluid, rhythmic foot movements.

Kahuna Training is not a tradition lost, although it has been in a kind of nebulous shroud for many years. In reality it has been available to people of all cultures since the late 1960s with the Kahuna himself, who modified the methods to suit contemporary western consciousness, to enable anybody to understand the Source of All.

For thirty years, aside from being trained in many specific Kahuna Arts, he was also trained in 'Kaona' & 'Ho'okake', the kahuna use of innate perceptive ability. This ability translates figurative, symbolic and literal reasoning into functional Principle, upon which all lectures, workshops and seminars at Na Pua 'Olohe are formatted today, making it possible to cross over the perspective of time and culture, without limitations.

The name (Kahu) Aua'ia Maka'i'ole is the doctorate of his second Kahuna achievement, known as 'Ike ka', and used the Masters name of (Kahu) Abraham Kawai'i. He also carried the title and doctoral achievement of 'ULIAMA', and the 'Nobel Portal of Kahuna Aua'ia'.

As a master of numerous Kahuna arts he dedicated his life to pass on his knowledge to all those individuals, ready to get to know themselves better, to grow, to come in close contact with their own family and to admit movement and well-being at all levels.

Kahu Abraham knew it was time to bring the deeper gifts of Lomi Lomi into the world access. There are only a few hundred practitioners in the world today that are offering this Temple Style Lomi Lomi Technique.

He brought temple style Lomi Lomi out into the public domain in 1968. Before that time, this art form of Lomi Lomi was strictly held in a temple environment, meaning as sacred, and as a Rites of Passage Ceremony.

Na Pua ‘Olohe (The Flowers of Wisdom) was founded by Kahu Abraham Kawai’i in 1989 for the promotion and teaching of Kahuna Sciences as developed by him for western Culture and as the vehicle with which his student Ho’okahi Ho’oulu could present his work to other cultures throughout the world. After years of traveling/teaching he settled in Kauai.

Kahu Abraham Kawai’i felt that the wealth inherent in Hawaiian culture could be taught outside of its cultural framework, and formulated strategies to teach the principles at work rather than anything specifically Hawaiian.

He often stated that none of the trainings he offered were ever about healing, rather they focused on the manifestation of the self. Early on in his own personal training he developed a style of bodywork known as Romi Kaparere, known throughout the world as Kahuna Bodywork and Temple Style Lomi.

" In training with Kahuna, there was no pen and pencil.

In training with Kahuna there were few words spoken.

95% of instruction was non-verbal.

In that way you had to formulate your own roots.

You had to initiate when the time came to initiate.

You had to carry forth when the time came to carry forth.

You had to know the time.

You had to know the time that is within you by way of your feelings.

How your body felt would give you the time to move, the time to open your eyes, the time to close your eyes, the time to think about a particular thing, and the time to look intensely at something...and the time all flowed by Spirit..."

Abraham Kawai'i

He was single-handedly responsible for the resurgence in interest in Hawaiian Geomancy, which focuses on the interaction between natural structures and energies. He practiced and taught both the huli honua* and Kuhikuhipueoneone aspects of this work for many decades.

He stepped out of this existence into the next in 2004, but his work continues.

Here is one of his poems, the one we like the most:

HAWAIIAN LOTUS / HEATHER TITUS http://www.hawaiianlotus.com

Photographer Heather Titus: Hawaii - A State of Being.

This is the second book from Hearher Titus, a Lanikai photographer and author whose earlier volume, Passion and Beauty, has been on the local bestsellers list multiple times since its release in 2004.

“With the first book being so well-received locally, I was inspired by the many stories I heard, “said Titus, who has 20 years of professional experience under her camera belt.

“The book had touched people’s hearts deeply. This fact, coupled with my love of the scenic beauty of Hawaii, inspired me to put together a second book that would reach a greater audience.”

Her photographs have graced the covers as well been featured in leading magazines in Hawaii as well as published nationally and internationally in various publications.

Photographs of nature and hula are exquisitely paired with quotes from kahuna Abraham Kawai’i, written in conjunction with his wife and longtime student Ho’okahi Kawai’i. A gold foil cover with photographic imagery encompass the coffee-table book that features 136 images captured on Kauai, Oahu, Maui and the volcanoes of the Big Island.

“The book is the essence of the aloha spirit as expressed by the Hawaiian culture, “Titus explained. “It shows how to find harmony within oneself and within one’s community and relationships.”

A Hawaiian resident for over 15 years finds these Islands provide her with an unending source of inspiration. In Nature there are many unpredictable qualities, as a photographer timing is an essential element; the right moment emerges when light and subject are embraced in harmony.

With passion to reveal the existing beauty throughout Hawaii, her images convey exquisite moments of harmony within the eternal rhythms of these unique islands.
